John Barber

Originally from Bristol, John pursues and enjoys an eclectic musical life. He has composed for the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne Opera and the Royal Academy of Music and regularly runs creative education projects for the major arts organisations in the UK including Spitalfields Festival, Wigmore Hall and Opera North.

He performs and records with his groundbreaking band firefly who released their debut album in February this year and with the amazing Woven Gold, a band in which refugees and asylum seekers perform together with musicians living and working in London.

Recent projects include We are Shadows – a new theatre piece written for Spitalfields Festival performed in June 2011 with over 200 participants and Consider the Lilies, a major cantata for La Folia orchestra and soloists Omar Ebrahim, Michael Chance and Elin Manahan Thomas, which was performed at St Martin in the Fields in November 2010.
John is currently working on his first full-length opera, Eleanor Vale, which will be performed in summer 2012.
He is very excited to be coming back to Navarra!
